Whatever other work she does in this world, whatever other choices she makes (if she has choices), whether mothers or not—almost inevitably a daughter will end up, as her mother did, as female: maintaining a family and personal connections; cleaning, cooking, providing primary health and other necessary care; creating holidays, celebrations of birthdays and other milestones, feeling joy at seeing happiness on the faces of those we love.
